Did you choose the wrong parents? What your genes reveal.

For each of us, the importance of genetics is not in knowing what diseases are in your genetic code. Diseases are not determined by genetics the way that genetics will determine our red hair, green eyes, and number of fingers and toes. The idea that you have the MS gene, the diabetes gene (type 1 or 2), the heart disease gene, etc., has been thoroughly disproven by science, yet this type of thinking persists due to the fact that it was conventional wisdom for nearly 50 years. Conventional wisdom is hard to break, no matter how wrong it is. (Low fat is another example of conventional wisdom that is clearly wrong and dangerous.)

The importance of genetics in understanding why and how your genes are turned on and off by your life experiences and environments can be best explained by the science of epi-genetics. Think of genes being turned on and off like switches. It is a science that is at the forefront of understanding the “Why?” questions we have about illness and healing. As you get your education in what you need to become an expert yourself, you will first develop the proper mindset, and then you will develop a personal philosophy of living and making healthy choices, which will lead you to your “why” — the reason you make the choices you do.

Developing your “why” is critical to making the best lifestyle choices. Lifestyle choices should be what you want to do, not what you have to do. What you have to do requires too much willpower, which can, and usually does, run out. What you want to do is the result of knowledge and positive reinforcement over time, based on measurable results.
